The lessons are designed to build knowledge and skills that will help children create “happy, meaningful and productive lives.”
Starting in September, Ukrainian schoolchildren will be taught a social-emotional learning course, Lessons in Happiness. First Lady Elena Zelenskaya announced this on Telegram on Sunday, July 7.
According to him, happiness lessons are a Ukrainian adaptation of the American Well Being course, taking into account Ukrainian realities.
The education initiative aims to develop knowledge and skills that will help Ukrainian children create “happy, meaningful and fruitful lives.”
The course covers:
-
the ability to build relationships with people (happiness and stability are inextricably linked to it);
-
creativity and the ability to be the creator of your life;
-
“human studies” – about understanding the meaning of being human;
-
the ability to love, to empathize, to live with dignity and to be free;
-
wisdom and how to grow in it, the ability to make sense of life and experience;
-
values and how important it is to know the meaning of life;
-
emotional competence – the importance of empathy, emotional intelligence to understand the emotional needs and feelings of both oneself and the environment;
-
mental health, understanding how to take care of it.
“We live in an age where such skills are less important than knowledge of mathematics or biology especially mental health care skills – therefore, domestic specialists adapt the course to the realities of Ukraine, because, unfortunately, they are now radical, different for our children,” said Zelenskaya.
We remind you that Ukraine is in 105th place in the ranking of happiness: last year it was in 92nd place. Finland wins again.
