Law enforcement officials are considering several versions of a fatal accident near the village of Verkhov in the Rivne region, including damage to a truck tire. The head of the Rivne regional prosecutor’s office, Andrei Rudnitsky, announced this at a briefing on July 7.
“Several versions are currently being considered about the causes of this tragedy, the first is the damage to the tire of a truck, as a result of which it drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a shuttle bus,” he said .
In addition, according to the prosecutor, many other versions are considered, including about the release of the owner and officers of business entities of technically broken vehicles, the inattention and violation of the driver on traffic rules, as well as force majeure events.
“To verify these versions, an inspection at the scene of the incident has been carried out with the participation of specialists and experts have been assigned, including automotive and forensic tests, the issue of which will also consider the presence of alcohol in the blood of the drivers.” “Currently, the witnesses of the accident and eyewitnesses have been questioned… The investigation is ongoing,” Rudnitsky stressed.
The police noted that all 14 dead were identified: they were residents of Khmelnitsky and Rivne regions from 20 to 67 years old. The youngest victim, a boy, turned six on July 4th.
“Among those who died were the child’s parents, only his 57-year-old grandmother, a resident of Netishyn, survived the accident. There was no threat to her life. The victim has been interrogated by investigators.
