On Tuesday morning, July 2, the Hungarian Prime Minister’s motorcade arrived at the Hungarian Embassy in Kyiv in numerous cars. The politician’s visit to the Ukrainian capital had not been previously announced. This was reported by “European Pravda” on Telegram.
Orban is expected to hold talks with Zelensky and other officials today. Hungarian Prime Minister’s press secretary Bertalan Havasi said the main topics of the meeting would be “achievements in peace” in Ukraine and Hungarian-Ukrainian relations.
Orban last visited Ukraine in 2012, meeting with then-President Viktor Yanukovych in the capital. After that, the Hungarian prime minister did not visit Ukraine either under Volodymyr Zelensky or the previous president Petro Poroshenko.
Let us recall that the media reported that Hungary demands that all of Transcarpathia be recognized as “traditionally Hungarian.” Among Budapest’s 11 demands for the protection of the rights of national minorities, the key stumbling block is the definition of places in Ukraine with a special level of guarantee of the rights of Hungarians.
