This is Budapest’s second presidency of the Council of the European Union. It will last until the end of December 2024.
Hungary’s presidency of the Council of the European Union will continue from July 1 to December 2024. The country replaced Belgium, the CE press service said in a statement.
In mid-June, Hungary presented the slogan for its six-month presidency of the EU Council – Make Europe Great Again (MEGA). This slogan is reminiscent of Donald Trump’s campaign slogan when he first ran for President of the United States in 2016 (Make America Great Again, MAGA).
The priorities of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU are seven areas:

ratification of a new European Competitiveness Agreement;

strengthening European defense policy;

a consistent and merit-based expansion policy;

stopping illegal immigration;
-
shaping the future of unity policy;
-
farmer-oriented EU agricultural policy;
-
solving demographic problems.
We remind you that the European Commission does not appreciate the slogan chosen by Hungary for its future presidency of the Council of the European Union.
EU Foreign and Security Policy Spokesperson Peter Stano said Hungary’s presidency of the European Union does not give it the authority to shape international policy. At the same time, most member countries will overcome possible delays in shaping its agenda.
