At some American bases, Charlie’s level of threat was introduced, which had not happened for more than ten years.
Several US military bases in Europe were put on high alert for the first time in at least a decade. CNN reported this on Sunday, June 30, citing two American officials.
It was noted that over the weekend the level of protection of the bases, in particular, the US Army garrison in Stuttgart, where the headquarters of the European Command is located, was raised to the highest (“Charlie”). It is used when an incident occurs or intelligence receives information about the possibility of a terrorist act or attack.
An interlocutor based at one of the bases in Europe said they had not seen this level of threat for “at least 10 years.” According to him, this usually indicates receiving an “active credible threat.”
US European Command spokesman Corporal Dan Day would not comment on specific levels of protection. The military only noted that they constantly review factors that affect safety and often take additional measures to ensure the safety of military personnel.
Let’s remember that in May the United States opened a permanent military base of special forces in Poland. It is located only 250 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
It has also been reported that US troops are based in Denmark. Deploying troops and equipment will reduce response time should the situation worsen, and will also send a deterrent message to those who threaten security.
