Freeing 10 civilians from captivity: photos emerge

Among those returned were two Greek Catholic priests: Bogdan Geleta and Ivan Levitsky.

On the evening of Saturday, June 29, President Vladimir Zelensky published a photo of the released 10 Ukrainians, together with the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Neriman Dzhelal.

The photos show two Greek Catholic priests: Bogdan Geleta and Ivan Levitsky, who were captured in Berdyansk for resisting the invaders. Among those who received them in Ukraine was the Apostolic Nuncio Visvaldas Kulbokas.

We remind you that on Friday evening it became known that 10 civilians were returned to Ukraine from Russian captivity. Among them is the deputy head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Nariman Jelal, who was captured in 2021, as well as two priests of the UGCC.

Since February 2022, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine has interviewed more than 600 Ukrainian military personnel and civilians freed from captivity. All of them reported torture and other forms of ill-treatment while in captivity.
