This was announced by the head of the country’s Air Force, Jan Dam.
Officially, it still sounds like the first of 19 Danish F-16 aircraft will be delivered to Ukraine in the summer, writes the publication Nyheder. However, to gain an advantage in the air over Ukraine, much more is needed, believes the head of the Danish Air Force Jan Dam.
This requires a more effective air force and ground-based air defense… Shooting down the F-16 would be a major strategic victory for the Russians, and we are doing everything we can to minimize the risk by making the Ukrainians as skilled as possible. But I can’t promise anything. And, of course, I would be very sorry if one of them was shot down, he says.
Denmark will stop training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets by the end of this year.
The head of the Danish Ministry of Defense said this during a joint press conference with his colleague from Norway, Bjørn Arild Gramm.
Pulsen explained that the training of Ukrainian pilots will stop due to the fact that Denmark is switching to F-35 fighters.
The new aircraft will use the air base in Skrydstrup, where Ukrainian pilots are trained.
According to him, about 20 Ukrainian F-16 pilots will be trained to complete the training program at the end of 2024.
In addition, Denmark will still be able to contribute to the training of Ukrainian pilots, but this will not take place on the territory of the country.
Let us recall that on August 20, 2023, Danish Prime Minister Matte Frederiksen announced that the country plans to send 19 F-16 aircraft to Ukraine.
Vladimir Zelensky recently stated that Danish F-16s will arrive in Ukraine in the near future.
