The Georgian parliament approved a package of anti-LGBT laws in the first reading. This is already the second “Russian law” from the ruling party.

The package consists of 19 bills and generally concerns a ban on LGBT propaganda. The Georgian Dream party explains its need by protecting “family values.” They want to finally approve this package in the fall.
The first law, similar to the Russian one, was about “foreign agents”. It caused large-scale protests with clashes and put the country off the path to the EU.
Critics consider the initiative to be part of the election campaign of the Georgian authorities, manipulating the LGBT+ topic, encouraging homophobia and further alienating Georgia from EU membership.
Opposition deputies boycotted the meeting. The second and third readings of the bill will take place in the fall.
In early June, the ruling Georgian Dream party introduced a bill for consideration. The authors of the initiative propose to introduce a ban on gender reassignment, adoption and guardianship of minors for same-sex couples, as well as on holding meetings aimed at “popularizing” same-sex marriage, gender reassignment and adoption of children by same-sex couples.
In addition, it was proposed to prohibit the dissemination in works, programs and other materials of content about same-sex marriage, incest, adoption of children by same-sex couples and gender reassignment operations.
