At the beginning of March 2022, the Russian invaders occupied Energodar, and on March 4, the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.
The designated Russian deputy director of the temporarily seized Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, Eduard Atakishchev, is helping the Russian military remove unused equipment from the plant. The Center for National Resistance (CNS) reported this on Wednesday, June 26.
Local residents note that the new “head of the nuclear power plant,” headed from Rostov-on-Don, is responsible for signing fictitious agreements on the transfer of unclaimed property of plant for the needs of the Russian invaders, as well as their placement on the territory of the facility.
“Atakischev regularly moves surrounded by military personnel and almost never appears in the occupied Energodar, but mainly in Moscow,” the underground reported.
It is indicated that all the activities of Atakishchev are under the national control center of “defense” of the Russian Federation.
“This is further evidence that the Russians are systematically turning the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant into a military facility,” CNS believes.
As a result of the ongoing Russian occupation, the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is deteriorating and, after returning to Ukrainian control, it will take years to resume and restart it.
Let’s recall that earlier the IAEA announced three direct hits on the protective structures of the main reactor of the Zaporizhia NPP. Rosatom has traditionally blamed the Ukrainian military for the strike.
On June 11, a mine exploded at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant near the cooling pond. No one was injured as a result of the explosion, and there was no damage.
