A military coup takes place in Bolivia: General Zuniga announces a power grab and takes control of the presidential palace. AP wrote this on Wednesday 26.

According to Vision360, a group of armed men entered the government’s Quemado Palace after an armored vehicle entered the plaza in front of it.

President Luis Arce condemned the presence of the military in the government headquarters and called on them to respect democracy.

In this regard, the country’s former president Evo Morales accused General Juan José Zúñiga of trying to organize a military coup, saying “we will not allow the armed forces to violate democracy and terrorize the people.”

According to media reports, the general was removed from his post as army commander the previous day for criticizing Morales.

Bolivian Interior Minister Eduardo del Castillo condemned the military’s actions, and Foreign Minister Celinda Sosa called on the international community to support Arsi’s government.

Meanwhile, Zuniga, speaking in Murillo Square, said he mobilized troops to the building to “take back our homeland.”

“There will be a new cabinet of ministers, of course, everything will change, our country cannot be like this. Stop destroying, stop plundering our country, stop humiliating our army,” he said.

The previous coup attempt took place in Bolivia in 2019 over allegations of electoral fraud against Morales. After the Organization of American States recognized the fraud, Morales received a warning from the commander of the armed forces, Williams Kaliman. Kaliman was later sentenced to prison for attempting to participate in the coup.

In light of the situation in Bolivia, Honduran President Xiomara Castro called an emergency meeting of CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean Countries).

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pardoned seven former generals who were sentenced to life imprisonment for overthrowing the Islamic government in 1997.

Foreign oppositions make three main scenarios for destabilizing the situation in Belarus. The self-proclaimed President of the Republic, Alexander Lukashenko, announced this in a meeting with the heads of national security agencies.
