People’s Deputy Andrei Odarchenko intended to bribe the head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development.
The High Anti-Corruption Court has begun hearing the merits of the case against a citizen representative accused of giving undue benefits to high-ranking officials in the field of reconstruction. This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday, June 25.
“The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court has started a hearing on the merits of the case against the current People’s Deputy of Ukraine, a member of the Committee on Anti-Corruption Policy, who was accused of giving undue benefits to high-ranking officials in field of restoration,” the statement said.
During the hearing, the prosecutor announced a summary of the indictment. After that, the panel of judges studied the evidence provided by the prosecution.
The next meeting is scheduled for 11:00 June 28.
It was confirmed that the representative of the people made a proposal to the highest official to give him an undue benefit for ensuring that the Interdepartmental Working Group made a decision to allocate funds from the fund for the elimination of the consequences of armed raids for the renovation of university buildings, where the representative of the people continues to hold the position of rector (whose contract is suspended). The proposed amount of undue benefit should be 8% of the funding amount.
Subsequently, the deputy gave the highest official a share of this illegal benefit in the amount of 0.39 bitcoins, which at the time of the transaction was equal to 10 thousand dollars.
The deputy faces a prison sentence of five to ten years with or without confiscation of property.
Let’s recall that in November 2023, law enforcement officials reported suspicion of a representative trying to bribe the head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development, Mustafa Nayema.
The defendant was deputy Andrei Odarchenko. The court arrested him with the alternative of posting 15 million hryvnia bail. Bail was posted for Odarchenko, as a result of which he was released from the pre-trial detention center.
