The Russians are preparing a larger offensive in the Kharkov region, focusing almost 90 thousand soldiers on their territory, but thanks to the US permission to attack with American weapons on Russian territory, the new offensive was prevented, according to the publication of the Associated Press.
According to the AP, the US decision to give the Ukrainian army permission to strike with American weapons on Russian territory was made at 11 am Washington time as Russian troops prepare to open a new front in the north -east of Ukraine.
First Deputy Defense Minister Ivan Gavrilyuk said the Russians, preparing for a new offensive, had brought at least 90,000 troops into Ukraine but were keeping them inside their territory.
Military personnel of Ukrainian brigades fighting in the Kharkov direction told AP that within a few hours after receiving permission from the United States, the operation of HIMARS missile systems began on the territory of the Russian Federation .
“HIMARS was not quiet all day, the Ukrainian forces managed to destroy the entire line of troops along the border, waiting for orders to enter Ukraine,” the crew’s artillery commander, call sign Hephaestus, recalled in a conversation with AP.
As Hephaestus explained, previously the Ukrainian military could not attack targets on Russian territory, because the Russians kept all warehouses with ammunition and other resources 20 km further than the reach of Ukrainian weapons.
As AP notes, after the permission to strike against the Russian Federation, the dynamics on the northeastern front changed almost immediately, and Ukrainian troops managed to stabilize the situation there.
Let’s remember that since the beginning of the massive Russian invasion, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have not been able to use Western weapons to attack Russian territory. However, after the start of a new offensive in the Kharkov region in May of this year, Kyiv intensified calls for the United States and Western countries to grant such rights to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Only at the end of May, after permission to strike the Russian Federation was supported by a number of NATO countries, the White House gave Ukraine the green light, but with some restrictions.
