The US State Department explained the increase in the supply of missiles to Ukraine for air defense systems by intensifying the Russian Federation’s shelling of Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
Russia is striking Ukrainian energy facilities because it plans to leave Ukrainians without light and heat in the winter. State Department Matthew Miller stated this on Thursday, June 20, as quoted by Ukrinform.
“We’ve seen Russian troops shelling Ukrainian cities, we’ve seen them target energy infrastructure, and we’ve seen them clearly show that they want to cut off electricity and heating for Ukrainians when of winter,” Miller said.
He emphasized that Washington understands the need to strengthen the Ukrainian air defense system and has agreed with allies and partners on ways to meet such needs.
“This includes the supply of additional systems from around the world to improve Ukraine’s air defense, and also provides for the maintenance of systems already provided,” explained a State Department spokesman.
We remind you that on the night of June 20, the Russians launched a missile and drone attack on the energy sector of Ukraine. Most of the targets were shot down, but power facilities in four regions were damaged.
It was later learned that seven power engineers were injured, one of them in serious condition.
