The Hungarian Minister for European Affairs emphasized that Hungary will lead the EU Council “as an honest broker” and plans to start the debate and set the direction on issues that are considered important.
During its presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2024, Hungary has chosen the phrase “Make Europe Great Again” as its slogan. This was announced at a briefing on June 18 by the Minister for European Affairs of the Hungarian government, Janos Boka, Telex reports.
Boca noted that Hungary will lead the EU Council “as an honest broker” and plans to initiate debate and set direction on issues deemed important.
He added that Budapest is committed to “objective and reliable” enlargement, where it wants to make progress with all Balkan candidates, and also sees “enthusiasm for enlargement” in Ukraine’s “eastern trio” , Moldova and Georgia.
The brand of the Hungarian presidency was also presented at the briefing. It combines the flags of the EU and Hungary and a Rubik’s cube – a famous Hungarian invention.
The slogan “Let’s return Europe to greatness,” as Boka explained, reflects the idea of independent action by the EU, and due to its similarity to Trump’s slogan, the minister assured that in fact we are talking about continuation of the slogan of the previous Hungarian presidency about “a strong Europe” in 2011.
We would like to add that around 230 events are planned during the Hungarian presidency, including 16 informal meetings at the ministerial level, as well as an informal summit of EU leaders and a summit of the European Political Community in Hungary.
Earlier, the media reported that Hungary no longer opposes Rutte as NATO Secretary General. At the same time, he said that Orban did not even repeat his request for forgiveness from his Dutch counterpart.
