Five NATO allies already spend more than 3% of GDP on defense – Poland, Estonia, USA, Latvia and Greece.
The combined defense budget of all NATO member countries at current prices will reach a record high of nearly $1.5 trillion in 2024. The Alliance released the relevant information on Tuesday, June 18.
In absolute terms (at current prices), over the past 10 years, total defense spending by NATO allies has increased from 943 billion 218 million dollars in 2014 to 1 trillion 474 billion 399 million US dollars in 2024 ( according to the forecast) .
The bulk of spending this year came from the United States – $967 billion 707 million, while the combined defense spending of European allies and Canada equaled $506 billion 693 million.

Among the countries with defense spending below 2% of GDP are Croatia, Portugal, Italy, Canada, Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Spain.
