The liberation of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant will take place through diplomacy.
Ukraine is closer to de-occupying the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant after the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland. President Vladimir Zelensky said this in response to journalists’ questions after the last press conference on Sunday, June 16.
According to the head of state, during the Peace Summit, the countries recognized that the deoccupation of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant should take place through diplomatic means. Special meetings are held for this purpose.
“We will meet on the platform of one of the states, where nuclear safety will be discussed and a plan will be developed,” the president said.
The joint communiqué of the Peace Summit included a clause in which the participating countries agreed to Ukraine’s need to control the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant under the supervision of the IAEA.
The first point of the joint position states that nuclear facilities must operate safely and reliably under the control of Ukraine and the supervision of the IAEA.
Let’s recall that earlier the IAEA announced three direct hits on the protective structures of the main reactor of the Zaporizhia NPP. Rosatom has traditionally blamed the Ukrainian military for the strike.
On June 11, a mine exploded at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant near the cooling pond. No one was injured as a result of the explosion, and there was no damage.
