Argentina became a new member of the contact group. The country is represented at the meeting by Defense Minister Petri.
Ramstein’s agenda includes strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, including Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems. At the Council, ministers will discuss support for Ukraine in the long term.
Argentine President Javier Miley will also travel to Switzerland and meet with Zelensky at the Ukrainian peace summit. This decision was made at the last minute. Zelensky sent a special message to the president that his Argentine friend should at least attend the opening ceremony of the summit.
Argentina said it adheres to two points of the Peace Formula to be presented in Switzerland this weekend: radiological and nuclear safety and the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity in accordance with the UN Charter.
In addition, Argentina is discussing with France the transfer of Super Etendard combat aircraft to Ukraine. We are talking about sending 5 Super Etendard aircraft, which are inoperative due to the embargo that Great Britain applied against Argentina as a result of the Falklands War, notes the publication Infobae.
These fighters are stored at the Espora air force base in Puerto Belgrano. Since the planes arrived in Argentina, “they have never been used.” It is assumed that France will repair them and transfer them to Ukraine.
France’s participation is key to overcoming this geopolitical obstacle, and Chancellor Diana Mondino and Defense Minister Louis Petri have been working for weeks to push through the secret move, which also involves US and NATO participation.
Super Etendard is a French supersonic carrier-based attack aircraft. The first flight took place in 1974. Exported to Argentina. The Falklands War of 1982 was a war between Great Britain and Argentina for control of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas). Britain won and controls the islands to this day.
