CNN said that this document is similar to other bilateral agreements between Ukraine and partner countries.
Ukraine and the United States will sign a bilateral security agreement on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy on Thursday, June 13, reports the American television channel CNN, citing its sources.
The agreement provides for a 10-year commitment by the US to continue training the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition, the document regulates cooperation in the production of weapons and military equipment, the extension of military assistance and the strengthening of the exchange of intelligence information.
It is in executive form rather than a formal treaty, so it is subject to change by future US administrations. It does not provide for specific US financial obligations for the defense of Ukraine.
“The annex to the agreement will outline how the Biden Administration plans to work with Congress to implement security commitments, particularly the long-term funding that will be needed to support Ukraine’s defense,” the statement said.
CNN explained that this document is similar to other bilateral agreements that Ukraine has with partner countries.
Consultations between the United States and Ukraine are also expected after possible future attacks by the Russian Federation. But the agreement does not include mutual defense, unlike NATO membership.
Earlier, Joe Biden assured that Ukraine will always have the support of the United States.
