The head of the European Commission emphasized that the purpose of these measures is to improve access to financing for Ukrainian businesses.
The European Union provides Ukraine with substantial financial assistance within the Ukrainian Fund budget in the amount of 50 billion euros and, together with partner European banks, creates a financial program of 1.4 billion euros to attract foreign investment of capital of Ukraine. The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated this on Tuesday, June 11, at a conference on the restoration of Ukraine, Ukrinform writes.
“Here in Berlin, we are signing a first agreement worth €1.4 billion with our partner banks to attract investment to Ukraine from our private sector. We will also initiate targeted support for capital investment in Ukraine. In this way, we, the EU, will help them (investors) to remove some of the risks associated with capital investments,” said von der Leyen.
The head of the EC emphasized that the aim of these measures is to improve access to financing for Ukrainian businesses, especially in terms of investments in small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as also to start-ups that will help modernize the economy of Ukraine, in particular in IT, digitalization, renewable energy and the production of critical raw materials.
“We will start with pilot projects to meet the most urgent needs, these projects can be expanded over time. I know the business community wants to increase their contributions. Together we can mobilize the power financially to help Ukraine resist (invasion – ed. .) and recover,” stressed Ursula von der Leyen.
The head of the EC recalled that the Ukraine Fund of 50 billion euros, created in the multiannual budget of the EU for 2024-2027, was supported by a solid reform and investment plan from the Ukrainian government, and this plan is being implemented already. From this fund, Ukraine has already received 6 billion euros from the EU.
Remind you that the head of the EC also announced that Ukraine will receive solar panels and generators from the EU.
