Federal investigators searched the home of former Trump Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.
Clark, who helped suspect that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, was raided at his home in Virginia for the Justice Department’s investigation into attempts to overthrow the presidential election. This was reported by the New York Times, based on people experts in the field.
The exact reason for the search was not immediately known. It is also unclear which federal agencies are conducting the investigation. A neighbor who claims to have witnessed law enforcement actions told ABC News that FBI agents appeared to be involved.
The Center for American Renewal, where Clark works, condemned the search of his home, calling it a “government tool”.
“Yesterday, more than a dozen law enforcement officers entered Jeff Clark’s home early in the morning, took him to the street in his pajamas and confiscated his electronics. All because Jeff saw it as appropriate to investigate election fraud. “It’s not America, people.”
Clark served as an assistant attorney general in the Trump administration’s Department of the Environment and Natural Resources. In the fall of 2020, he was also appointed interim head of the Civil Division of the Department of Justice.
Clark joined Trump after defeating the former president in the re -election campaign. Former Trump administration officials said Trump once considered appointing Clark as the Department of Justice’s interim Attorney General. The decision came after Attorney General William Barry resigned in December 2020 after failing to convince Trump that there was no evidence of widespread election fraud.
The Jan.6 Rebellion Chamber of Commerce Selection Committee is expected to testify Thursday about three former Trump nominees: Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, Attorney General Richard Donogiu, and Attorney General Stvenigen of the Attorney General’s Office. Trump’s efforts to get Clark to act as Attorney General.
Clark refused to cooperate with the House Select Committee. In December, the committee voted to prosecute Clark for his failure.
