12.5% was won by the far-right Republican Party, led by Milan Ugrik, whose political preferences are considered close to Nazi ones.
The Voice party, founded by the newly elected president and Fico’s comrade-in-arms Peter Pellegrini, scored 7.18%.
The Christian Democratic Movement gained 7.15%.
As a result of the vote, the Slovaks elected 15 European deputies for five years. It is likely that Progressive Slovakia will receive 6 of the 15 seats, SMER – 5, the Republican Party – 2, Holos and the Christian Democratic Movement – 1 each.
The number of mandates could still be adjusted if the SaS party and the Democrats cross the 5 percent threshold, which, according to preliminary results, they did not overcome.
The decision of Western countries to allow Ukraine to fire their weapons at targets in Russia will lead to escalation, I will not drag Slovakia into such military adventures, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said during the vote.
Fico voted in the European Parliament elections straight from the hospital. He said that it is necessary to elect deputies who will “support peace initiatives, and not the continuation of the war.”
On May 15, an attempt was made on Fico’s life – he was shot by 71-year-old Juraj Tsintula, who, after his arrest, said that the motive for his action was disagreement with Fico’s policies, in particular, due to the latter’s reluctance to help Ukraine.
On June 6-9, the EU’s 373 million voters elect 720 EU deputies.
