The European Commission gave a positive oral assessment of the progress of reforms in Ukraine and Moldova in areas necessary for European integration. The EC recommends starting accession negotiations with Kiev.
It is noted that Ukraine has achieved the necessary criteria in certain areas – anti-corruption, control over political lobbying, transparency of officials and in the field of ensuring the rights of national minorities.
Prime Minister Denis Shmigal also announced that the European Commission supported the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
The conclusion states that Ukraine has completed all four additional reform steps and continues systematic efforts to join the EU.
The EU and Ukraine plan to start negotiations in June before the EU presidency passes to Hungary in July.
