Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka said that in May the export of grain products traditionally decreases, so 3.6 million tons of corn were exported in May, which is 452 thousand tons less than in April, and wheat – 1.6 million tons, which is an increase. 285 thousand tons less.
But in May, a significant increase in metallurgical export volumes was recorded. In particular, exports of seamless pipes increased by 50.2% compared to April 2024, semi-finished products by 40%, and flat rolled products by 17%.
“That is why it is so important that on May 31, Biden adopted a proclamation, which continues to avoid the duties of Ukrainian steel in the EU giving us great opportunities for the integration of the mining industry and Ukrainian metal in the industry of EU and USA “, said Kachka.
The Ministry of Economy also reports changes in the geography of exports. In particular, exports to Poland increased by 12% compared to April and reached $365.8 million. Exports to India, where Ukraine mainly sends sunflower oil, increased by 85%. And exports to China dropped by 30% due to the seasonal drop in corn exports, which is the country’s main export commodity.
“Despite the fact that last month the physical volume of exports of goods decreased by 6.9% compared to April, May became the second month for these indicators throughout the period of full invasion, ” added the deputy minister.
It was previously reported that Ukraine exported a record amount of sugar in May. According to the results of last month, Ukraine exported 65% of sugar to the EU, 35% to other countries.
