To win the post, he must win the support of a supermajority of EU leaders and then get the votes of at least 361 of the 720 MEPs.
The European Parliament can only vote when a majority of EU heads of state and government formally nominate a candidate. This may happen at the meeting of the European Council on June 27 and 28. Next, the discussion will move to the political groups of the European Parliament, which, in this case, will end on July 11.
