Gorgan regularly reported to the Russian intelligence services on the internal political situation in Moldova, and also transmitted data on visits by representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, who purchased military equipment and shells for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This is stated in the investigation of The Insider, which managed to gain access to correspondence in a telegram between Igor Gorgan and his curator from Russian intelligence Alexei Makarov.
The former chief of the Moldovan General Staff began especially actively contacting Makarov in April 2022, that is, after the start of a full-scale war. Judging by their correspondence, the GRU was especially interested in what weapons Kyiv was purchasing from neighboring countries, in particular Moldova.
Gorgan told Makarov about what routes fuel was taken to Ukraine, what equipment Kyiv was trying to buy from Moldova, and also called for closing the border with Romania, because too much military cargo was coming from there.
In addition, Gorgan constantly bombarded Makarov with messages that everything in Moldova was ready for an invasion by Russian troops.
We urgently need to cleanse the country of all fascist abominations!!! Many are ready. Pass it on… The time has come. I keep the whole situation in the army under control… Here, fortunately, there are no “Azov” or other national formations, and we’ll deal with the politicians quickly,” Gorgan wrote.
Gorgan worked in the General Staff until the end of 2021. In 2023, he got a job at the UN Refugee Office in Chisinau. Now Gorgan is delivering humanitarian aid to Ukrainian children.
