In 2023, there are almost 200 protection applicants in refugee centers, of which 45 are from Ukraine, 60 from Russia.
The majority of refugee reception centers in Estonia are now Russian citizens. This is confirmed by statistics from the Department of Police and Border Guard for 2023, writes Delfi.
If necessary, the department will refer applicants for temporary residence provided by the state – to the refugee reception center in Vao in Laen-Virus County and its branch in Vyagev.
These centers are not only intended for refugees from Ukraine. Citizens of other countries requesting international protection in Estonia can also apply here. In 2023, there are almost 200 applicants for protection, of which 45 are from Ukraine, 60 from Russia, 23 from Afghanistan, 11 from Georgia and 61 citizens of other states.
Emergency social assistance, including the provision of social housing, is provided by local governments. Today the department has framework agreements for deployment across Estonia with 117 partners.
We remind you that the number of Ukrainian refugees in Estonia has started to decrease. This trend was observed for six months. Since the beginning of the war, about 160 thousand Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Estonia. About 90 thousand Ukrainians decided to stay in the country.
