Beijing believes that all efforts aimed at maintaining peaceful measures in the Russian-Ukrainian war should be recognized.
China never “fanned the fire or fed the fire” of the Russian-Ukrainian war. This statement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry Speaker Mao Ning, The Guardian reported on Monday, June 3.
According to him, China believes that all efforts aimed at maintaining peaceful steps in the Russian-Ukrainian war should be recognized.
Mao emphasized that China values relations with Ukraine and remains its largest trading partner. However, he added that China’s position regarding the peace conference is “open and transparent.”
“We believe we can get understanding and support from all parties,” Mao said.
The statement came after Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said Russia and China were trying to undermine a peace summit to be held in Switzerland next week.
Russia did not receive an invitation to this summit. Kiev believes that the presence of representatives of the Kremlin at this stage can hinder constructive dialogue and the search for a solution.
China also confirmed that it will not participate in the Peace Summit, which will take place on June 15-16 in Switzerland, because its requests for the participation of the Russian Federation are not considered.
Instead, China and Brazil are promoting an alternative event – an international peace conference “with equal participation of all parties.”
