French police arrested three people after finding five coffins wrapped in French flags with the words “French soldiers in Ukraine” near the Eiffel Tower, AFP reported.
Around 09:00 on Saturday morning, three people left five life-sized coffins on the Quai Branly in Paris at the base of the Eiffel Tower. The boxes, a source told AFP, contained plaster.
The driver of the van delivering the coffins was arrested nearby. He told Paris police that he was paid 40 euros to pick up two other people and their luggage. According to AFP, the driver arrived from Bulgaria the night before.
Two other accused were detained at the other end of Paris – at the Bercy bus station, where they were about to board a flight to Berlin. One of the detainees is Ukrainian, and the other is German.
The motive of the detainees is not yet clear, but the inscription on the coffins probably refers to discussions about sending Western troops to Ukraine – where France was the first to crack.
Let’s remember that next week France may announce its decision to send military instructors to Ukraine, despite the concerns of some allies and criticism from Russia.
