The attack took place on Friday, May 31, in the city center of Mannheim. Stürzenberger was seriously injured, but his life is not in danger. The attacker then attacked and injured several people, including a police officer. Another policeman shot at the attacker. The moment of the attack was broadcast live. WELT writes about this.
The Pax Europa Civic Movement party, of which Stürzenberger is a member, said he and his aides were attacked before a planned event.
The German Ministry of the Interior noted that investigators must establish the motive for the attack.
It is noted that the Bavarian authorities classify the activities of Stürzenberger and his circle around the Pax Europa movement as Islamophobia. The critic published materials on the right-wing extremist website Politically Incorrect.
The Bavarian Information Center Against Extremism said Stürzenberger had spread “Islamophobic remarks.”
Let us recall that on May 15, Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico was seriously injured during a meeting with voters in the city of Gandlova. The 71-year-old retired writer shot him several times with a pistol at close range. The government said the prime minister would have an “extremely long recovery” because he was seriously wounded in the abdomen.
