Analysts suggest that the Russians will continue to try to pull Ukrainian forces away from other sectors of the front.
Reinforcements for the Russian military in the Kharkiv region indicate attempts to pull Ukrainian forces away from critical sections of the front line in eastern Ukraine. Apparently, the Russians are planning to launch the second phase of their offensive in the Kharkov region. This is stated in a report by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Experts note that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, and the General Staff of Ukraine reported on May 30 that the Russian military is transferring units, additional regiments and brigades from other sections of the front line and from the training areas in Strelechya – Liptsy and Volchansk. However, these forces were not enough for a full offensive and breakthrough.
The head of the military administration of the Kharkov region, Oleg Sinegubov, also said that Russian troops are moving reserves in the direction of Liptsevskoe and Volchanskoe in order to attract and consolidate as many Ukrainian forces as possible in the north of the region of Kharkov and maintain the current speed. of Russia’s offensive actions in this area.
Analysts noted that the deployment of Russian military reinforcements in the Kharkiv region indicates that it is likely to continue to prioritize efforts to divert Ukrainian forces from critical sections of the front line in eastern Ukraine and attempt to create a “buffer zone” in the northern Kharkiv region.
The Russian forces could contain large reserves of the Northern Group of Forces, staffed by elements of the 11th Army Corps, 44th AK and 6th Combined Arms Army – all part of the Russian Leningrad Military District (LMD), ISW suggests .
So far this group of troops is nowhere near the planned final strength of 50,000-70,000 men. But even at the upper limit of the declared final strength, it will not have the necessary manpower to conduct a successful operation to surround or capture the city of Kharkov, analysts believe.
As you know, the Russian invaders are continuing their attack operations in the area of the city of Volchansk, Kharkov region. At the same time, the most difficult situation remains in the direction of Pokrovsky.
