Dutch police say they are on the trail of thieves involved in a multi-million dollar jewelry heist at an art exhibition.
An international investigation is on the trail of thieves involved in the multimillion-dollar heist of jewels at an art exhibition in the Netherlands. The AP reported it.
Thieves armed with sledgehammers are understood to have stolen jewelery from displays at an international art fair nearly two years ago, prompting an international police operation to track them down and recover the items, which police estimate are worth tens of millions of dollars.
In their latest investigation report, police in the Dutch province of Limburg said they had narrowed down their search for the thieves, who are believed to be from the Balkans.
“At the moment we are certainly talking about Serbia, and more precisely about the city of Nis. It is possible that the suspects are there now, but they are probably in Belgrade or its surroundings,” said police statement.
The investigation team also said that one diamond from a necklace stolen during the robbery was found in Israel, and the second was found in Hong Kong. Last year, the police already reported that one of the diamonds had been found, but then no details were given.
Police previously said they were looking for four men, and on Wednesday said a woman was also a suspect in the robbery.
