The Taliban welcomed the Russian ruling regime’s statements about the need to develop bilateral relations.
The Foreign Ministry of the Taliban movement, which controls Afghanistan, welcomes Russia’s statements about the need to develop bilateral relations. This was confirmed by the statement of the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdul Kahar Balkhi, published on Wednesday in the Internet sources controlled by the movement, reports Interfax, the Russian pro-government news agency.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Taliban call their government – ed.) welcomes the statements of the leadership of the Russian Federation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and other officials who expressed the political determination to develop of relations with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan,” his message said.
The statement said that “the past three years have shown that, after decades of war and instability, Afghanistan has a responsible government that has provided a good opportunity for countries across the region to develop positive relations based on bilateral priorities.” The work in this direction “must be done” and that “many countries have made good progress in this regard,” the Taliban ministry said.
The Taliban took over Afghanistan almost without a fight in August 2021 after the US and its backed government abandoned the country.
The movement is not recognized by any country in the world as the legitimate government of Afghanistan, but countries such as Russia, China, and Iran maintain relations with representatives of the movement.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice reported to the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, that the Taliban movement, banned in the Russian Federation, may not be included in the list of banned organizations.
