Now the law is submitted to the president within three days, who can sign and publish it within five days.
Georgia’s parliament overcame President Salome Zurabishvili’s veto and finally approved the law on transparency of foreign influence, the so-called “foreign agents” law. This was reported by NewsGeorgia on Tuesday, May 28.
The representatives voted with 84 votes to approve the bill in its original form. Four spoke against it.
Almost the entire opposition left the meeting in protest and did not participate in the voting. The opposition joined the rally on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi.
According to the Constitution of Georgia, the law is now submitted to the President of Georgia within three days. Zurabishvili can sign and publish it within five days. If he refuses to sign the law, the chairman of the parliament will sign and publish it.
So, the document could be published in early June.
We remind you that the Georgian parliament adopted the law on foreign agents in the third reading on May 14. After a while, President Salome Zurabishvili vetoed it.
Protests against this bill have been taking place in Georgia since April. The protesters said they would not allow changes to the country’s pro-European course.
