The number of naturalizations of Ukrainians increased by 6%, to 5,900 in 2023, after nearly tripling from 1,900 to 5,600 in 2021-2022.
Last year, the number of people granted German citizenship reached the highest level since records began in 2000. This was reported by the DPA agency.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, the number of naturalizations increased by 19% compared to the previous year. In absolute numbers, about 200,100 people were naturalized in 2023.
It is noted that in 2023, representatives of 157 different nationalities received German citizenship, mostly from Syria, Turkey, Iraq, Romania and Afghanistan. Altogether, these countries account for more than half of all naturalizations.
The average age of naturalized citizens is 29.3, making them younger than the general population. The proportion of naturalized women is 45%.
Former Syrian citizens reportedly make up the largest group of naturalized citizens, accounting for more than a third of all naturalizations. Their number increased by another 56% compared to last year. The high number of naturalizations of Syrians is due to the high immigration of Syrian asylum seekers in 2014-2016, who increasingly meet the requirements for naturalization.
The number of naturalizations of Ukrainians increased by 6%, to 5,900 in 2023, after nearly tripling from 1,900 to 5,600 in 2021-2022. Naturalization of Ukrainian citizens accounted for 3% of all naturalizations in 2023.
We remind you that Germany is concerned about the large influx of Ukrainian refugees into the country and proposes to distribute war refugees equally among all states of the European Union.
Germany has also reportedly proposed canceling payments for Ukrainian men of military age.
