Lifting the ban is necessary, otherwise the Defense Forces will not be able to effectively protect the territory of Ukraine, especially the border areas, which are mercilessly attacked by the aggressor.
It is time to remove “certain restrictions” on the use of weapons provided to Ukraine. After all, Kyiv has the right to defend itself, and this defense should include, in particular, strikes against military targets of the invaders of Russian territory. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced this on Friday, May 24, in an interview with The Economist.
He called on NATO allies supplying weapons to the Ukrainian Defense Forces to lift the ban on their use for strikes against Russia.
“It is time for the allies to think about whether they should remove some of the restrictions they have placed on the use of the weapons they have provided to Ukraine. Especially now, when there is a lot of fighting going on in the Kharkiv region, not far from the border. Since Ukraine does not have the ability to use these weapons against legitimate military targets on Russian territory, it is very difficult for it to defend itself,” he said.
He also emphasized that he had harsh words for the European members of NATO.
“The European allies promised a million artillery shells, we have not seen anything close to this,” Stoltenberg stressed.
Let’s remember that Bloomberg previously wrote that the United States does not allow Ukraine to attack Russian territory with American weapons, but Kyiv needs such permission to stop the Russian offensive in part of the eastern regions. However, there are requirements that Washington’s position on cross-border strikes using American weapons may change.
