The Hungarian Prime Minister has noted that his country wants to re-evaluate NATO membership, and officials are said to be working on it.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Hungary is working to redefine its NATO membership. Budapest wants to withdraw if the Alliance starts fighting outside its member states. Orban made the corresponding statement in an interview with Hungarian state radio, Bloomberg reports.
“Our lawyers and officials are working hard to see how Hungary can maintain its NATO membership so that it does not have to participate in NATO activities outside NATO territory,” he said.
We remind you that Hungary is afraid of possible escalation in Russia. Some NATO initiatives may cross red lines. This is what Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said.
Hungary also reportedly called NATO’s aid to Ukraine a “crazy mission.” Budapest traditionally opposes military aid to Kyiv and plans to stay on the sidelines.
