Millions of emails, most of them from Russian IP addresses, were sent at once, overwhelming the government’s email account.
In the French overseas territory of New Caledonia, before the arrival of French President Emmanuel Macron, a large-scale cyber attack was reported from Russian IP addresses, writes BFM TV.
“Last night we experienced an unprecedented cyber attack in New Caledonia, as the Internet access provider was attacked from an outside IP address with the aim of overloading the New Caledonia network,” said local government spokesperson Christopher Zizes.
It was noted that millions of emails, most of them originating from Russian IP addresses, were sent simultaneously, disabling the email account.
Christopher Zizes added that the cyber attack was recorded shortly after the announcement of Macron’s visit to New Caledonia.
Macron left Paris on Tuesday night for New Caledonia, where he plans to create a “mission” to calm the situation on the archipelago, where unrest has continued since last Monday.
Let’s remember that recently a large group of French police began to arrive in New Caledonia to continue control of the local capital of Nouméa. And Macron announced yesterday, May 21, that he will personally visit New Caledonia.
