Norway recognizes the Palestinian state. This is what Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said in a special press conference, NRK reports.
“By recognizing Palestine, we can more strongly encourage other countries to support the establishment of a Palestinian state, and we can hold the Palestinian state accountable,” Stere said.
Spain and Ireland also announced recognition of the Palestinian state.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced Spain’s decision, El Pais reports.
“I want to make one thing clear: this recognition is not directed against anyone, it is not directed against the people of Israel, a nation we value, and moreover, it is not directed against the Jews, a wonderful people connected history to Spain,” said Sanchez.
Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris also noted that his country recognizes Palestine, RTE reported.
“This is a statement of clear support for the two-state solution, the only sustainable path to peace and security for Israel, Palestine and their people,” Harris said.
The decisions by Norway, Spain and Ireland to recognize the Palestinian state will take effect on May 28.
