Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi was killed when his helicopter made a “hard landing” in a mountainous area.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said he could not express condolences to Iran over the death of the country’s President Ibrahim Raisi and explained why. In particular, on Monday, May 20, on Twitter X, he recalled Tehran’s role in the war against Ukraine.
Landsbergis emphasized that he does not feel comfortable sending condolences because Iran is sending Shahed-type drones to the aggressor state to attack civilians and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.
“I feel uncomfortable expressing sympathy while Iran sends drones to be used against civilians in Ukraine,” he wrote.
The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, made an official statement regarding the death of the President of Iran in a plane crash.
As is known, on May 19, a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi made a “hard landing” in a mountainous area, returning from Azerbaijan. For a long time, rescuers searched the crash site. Iranian authorities announced that Raisi and other officials had died in a helicopter accident.
