On May 18, doctors performed another two-hour operation, which, according to Slovak Health Minister Zuzana Dolinkova, contributed to “a positive health prognosis for the head of government.”
Bild writes that the Prime Minister of Slovakia was seriously injured on May 15 during a meeting with voters in the city of Gandlova. The 71-year-old retired writer shot him several times with a pistol at close range.
Officials initially described Fico’s condition as “critical” and “very serious.” So far they are more positive, but it is still unclear when Fico will be able to return to his duties.
Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kaliniak said that in the coming days Fico’s condition will not allow him to be transported to Bratislava.
The director of the hospital in Banska Bystrica said that Fico is conscious, but his condition remains serious.
