Omar bin Omran was found after the kidnapper’s brother exposed him on social media during an inheritance dispute.
An Algerian who disappeared more than 25 years ago and was presumed dead is being held captive by a neighbor. The Telegraph reported it.
45-year-old Omar bin Omran was found alive not far from his home – the man was hidden in a hole covered with straw.
He told the rescuers that he sometimes sees his family from prison. But he said he was unable to call for help “because of the spell his kidnapper cast on him.”
It is known that Omran was 19 years old when he disappeared in 1998 on his way to a training center. His disappearance comes at the height of a decade-long civil war between the government and Islamist rebel groups. His family fears he was among the estimated 200,000 killed or up to 20,000 abducted during the conflict.
The Algerian was saved by chance – the kidnapper’s brother quarreled with him over an inheritance and wrote on social networks that he was keeping a man in the basement.
The 61-year-old was taken into custody after attempting to flee. The investigation is still ongoing. The victim is given medical and psychological help.
Earlier it was reported that in the Nigerian city of Kuriga, armed militants kidnapped 287 school students.
