Pentagon Speaker Sabrina Singh noted that the United States has not changed its position on the use of weapons provided to Ukraine. As she noted, weapons must be used to return the sovereign territory of Ukraine:
The weapons being provided are intended for use on the battlefield,” Singh said at a May 16 briefing.
Recently, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the United States does not encourage Ukraine to strike outside its territories, but Ukraine itself decides how to wage war.
Ukraine itself will decide whether to fire American missiles at Russian territory, the US Secretary of State said in Kyiv on May 14.
Thus, Blinken avoided directly answering the question of whether the United States will allow the Ukrainian side to attack Russian territory with American weapons, but he repeated that the United States does not object to attacks on Russia in principle:
Ukraine itself must decide to wage war to protect freedom, sovereignty, territorial integrity… We will ensure that Ukraine has the weapons it needs to succeed on the battlefield, he said.
Blinken also added that the US could sign a bilateral security agreement with Ukraine within weeks, noting that the “hard work” on the agreement has already been completed.
We think that the leaders of states will sign an agreement on security guarantees and a number of other agreements as well,” said the Secretary of State.
