Doctors are still operating on the wounded head of government. The operation lasts more than three and a half hours. The country’s Interior Minister Matus Shutai-Eshtok said that the attacker shot Robert Fico five times, so the prime minister “is in critical condition.” The Guardian writes about this.
And Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak assessed Fico’s condition as “very difficult.”
At the same time, the ta3 TV channel writes that Robert Fico was successfully operated on and is in a stable condition and conscious.
It is also noted that the suspect who attempted the attack has already spoken about his motives. The shooter admitted that he was against the actions of the Fico government aimed at restricting media freedom,
Let us remind you that on May 15, Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico was shot after a government meeting in Handlov. One of the citizens opened fire when the head of government approached the crowd that greeted him. The attacker managed to fire several shots before being neutralized.
Fico was evacuated and taken by helicopter to one of the hospitals. The prime minister’s team stated that he received multiple wounds and was in a “life-threatening condition.”
According to media reports, the assassination attempt was carried out by 71-year-old writer Juraj Cintula, who is the founder of the literary club in Levice. The man previously worked for a security company and had a weapons permit.
