A Waldale school police officer has been banned from trying to rescue his wife Robbie, an elementary school teacher, in a deadly shooting in May.
His wife, Eva Mireles, a fourth-grade teacher, was one of two teachers killed in the attack. Nineteen children also lost their lives.
Texas Department of Public Safety Director Colonel Stephen McCraw revealed details during his testimony Tuesday. He also called the police response to the massacre an “unfortunate failure.”
Officer Ruben Ruiz arrived at the school after the accused, 18-year-old gunman Rob, entered elementary school. Reported by KSAT. Mireles called Ruiz and told him he had been shot and he was “dying”.
And what happened [Ruiz] “He’s trying to move forward in the hall,” McCrom said. “He was arrested and his weapon was confiscated and he was released at the scene.”
McCrum also criticized School District Police Chief Pete Arendo for the mass shooting. At least three investigations are currently studying the response from law enforcement.
“Obviously, not enough training has been done in this simple and easy situation,” McCrum told the police chief. “Because terrible decisions were made by the commander on the shore.”
