The head of the country proposed to the leading Georgian Dream party to postpone the date of entry into force of the law until November 1.
Georgia’s President Salome Zurabishvili made an urgent appeal amid mass rallies against the bill on “foreign agents.” This was reported by the Echo of the Caucasus on Sunday, May 12.
Zurabishvili proposed to the leading Georgian Dream party to postpone the law’s entry into force date until November 1. That is, make the law effective after the parliamentary elections held on October 26.
“This law is Russian, the procedures of our government are Russian, and even the prime minister’s speech today is Russian,” he said.
We remind you that on May 1, the parliament of Georgia adopted in the second reading a bill on the transparency of foreign influence – “foreign agents”. The final third reading of the bill will be considered on May 13.
Protests against this bill have been taking place in Georgia since April. Protesters say they will not allow changes to the country’s pro-European course.
