The Chinese Embassy in Washington called this move “an unprecedented slander on the economy and an outrage against technology.”
US President Joe Biden’s administration has added 37 Chinese companies to a list of trade restrictions, including for allegedly facilitating a spy balloon that flew into the United States last year. It was reported by Reuters.
The Commerce Department added five companies and a research institute to a list of entities that support “China’s military modernization efforts, particularly the aerospace programs of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), including the use of airships and balloons.”
Also added to the list were several units of the China Electronics Technology Group for allegedly attempting to acquire US technology to support China’s quantum technologies, which “have serious implications for US national security” due to their military applications.
The Chinese Embassy in Washington called the move an “unprecedented economic defamation and a technological desecration” and said China would firmly defend the legal rights of Chinese companies and institutions.
Let’s remember that, according to US intelligence, China used balloons to carry out espionage activities in various countries.
The media also wrote that the United States is creating sanctions to isolate individual Chinese banks from the global financial system. Washington hopes this will curb Beijing’s financial support for Russian military production.
