Polish media learned from local services that the man was wearing civilian clothes and was unarmed.
A Russian citizen, an alleged deserter of the Russian army, was detained on Polish territory. It was reported by Polish radio.
Podlasie border guards detained a 41-year-old Russian who illegally entered Poland from Belarus. Military documents were found on him: a contract with the Russian army on participation in military operations against Ukraine.
The spokesman of the Chief Commander of the Polish Border Guard, Andrzej Juzwiak, confirmed the illegal border crossing and added that “the border guards are taking further administrative actions with him.”
The man was wearing civilian clothes and was not carrying a weapon. Russian military documents were found in his possession, including the aforementioned contract. The Russian probably wants to use the migration “channel” to the West created by Minsk, which is mainly used by foreigners from the Middle East, North Africa and Asia.
Detailed information about the detention was provided by the representative of the Podlasie Department of the Border Guard, Katarzyna Zdanowicz.
“As it turned out, the man was a deserter who fought in Ukraine. He had valid military documents on him,” he said.
However, it is not certain if the soldier was actually a deserter, or if the flight was a cover for other activities, such as espionage or further sabotage, he added.
As we already wrote, Polish border guards detained a 41-year-old Russian military man on the border with Belarus, who left from one of the front units.
As you know, according to Ukrainian intelligence, until the end of April, the number of deserters from the Southern Military District of the Russian Army reached 18 thousand people.
