Hungary is demanding that Ukraine restore its minority “all the rights it had before 2015.”
In recent weeks, there have been “positive signs” that Ukraine is meeting Budapest’s demands regarding the rights of the Hungarian national minority. This was stated by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Hungary Tristan Azbey, European Pravda reports.
Hungary is demanding that the Ukrainian authorities fully restore the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine, “which have been violated or curtailed since at least 2015.”
“We demand the restoration of linguistic and educational rights in the daily life of the Hungarian minority. This is what we have been talking about in Ukraine for many years. In recent weeks we have noticed some positive sign. But it will still take some time before all the demands for minority rights are met,” Azbey said.
At the end of April, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said that Hungary is not backing down on its main demand for the meeting between Viktor Orban and Vladimir Zelensky – the restoration of all the rights of the Hungarian minority that they had in 2015.
Let’s recall that on May 4, the head of the Office of the President, Andriy Ermak, had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto. The parties discussed Ukrainian-Hungarian relations.
