According to border guards, since February 24, 2.8 million more people have left Ukraine than they entered.
If the war continues, this number could rise, predicts the director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research. Birds of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Academician Ella Libanova, reports RBC-Ukraine.
According to Libanova data, approximately 3-3.5 million of our citizens worked abroad before the war began. Therefore, in general, there are now 5.5-6 million Ukrainians in other countries.
“If the hot phase of the war ends quickly-let’s say, by the end of the summer, 500-600,000 of those who left because of the war will stay abroad. If it lasts more than a year, I will fears that from 2.8 million the number will grow to 5 million, ”the expert said.
In his opinion, people continue to leave the country. And if the hot phase lasts a long time, then the reverse flow will stop completely.
In addition, it is likely that most of the women present today will be able to find work, be able to rent acceptable housing, the children will go to school, kindergarten or university.
“If their housing in Ukraine is not in the condition they want, if they lose their jobs, the women will return. And the men will come to them when they are stuck,” Libanova warned of a new wave of migration. .
Remember, experts believe that assistance programs from international organizations, programs for the return and adaptation of people to new home conditions can work for the return of refugees. The unfavorable psychological climate and financial problems are some of the reasons that may have prevented many Ukrainians from going abroad to return home.
