The Miracle of the Holy Fire traditionally took place in the sacred place where Jesus Christ was buried. Today’s ceremony began at 12:30 Kyiv time and has already ended. This became known via online broadcast.
As you know, the Holy Fire is the fire that is taken out of the Holy Sepulcher during a special service, which is held annually on the pre-Easter Saturday in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Jerusalem.
The rite of ascension itself takes place in the Edicule. During the service, all candles and lamps inside the temple are extinguished. A special wax seal of the goalkeepers of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher is placed on the door.
The Patriarch of Jerusalem in white clothes walks around the Edicule three times with a special prayer. During the service, he holds 33 candles in his hands. Subsequently, he enters the grotto of the Holy Sepulcher and prays near the Three-Day Bed of Christ the Savior. After some time, the Holy Fire rises in the holy chapel.
Let us recall that in early April, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople expressed regret over the lack of a common date for the celebration of Easter, which this year fell on March 31 according to the Gregorian calendar, and on May 5 according to the Julian calendar.
